Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been in outstanding form this season and this continued as he found the back of the net for Everton with his eleventh goal of the season at Burnley.

The England striker notched the equaliser for Everton in the 1-1 draw at Turf Moor and while it was another excellent performance up front, he can’t be expected to carry the attack on his own all the time and needs more goals from his team-mates.

Calvert-Lewin has been a revelation in 2020-21, is currently the Premier League’s leading scorer and has now been responsible for more than 50% of the Toffees goals this season.

His positioning has changed with the 23-year-old playing much more in the box looking to find every bit of space and concentrating on finishing the team’s attacking moves.

This is at the behest of Carlo Ancelotti who is keen for him to fulfill his potential and start scoring goals far more regularly, which of course he has been doing this season.

However, despite this superb effort the Blues can’t rely on their number nine to do it all. If he were to get injured, which is certainly possible and with Everton’s bad luck probably more than likely, then the team would be in serious trouble.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

After Calvert-Lewin the next best contribution in goals is James Rodriguez who has three, although the last two of those were in the 4-2 win against Brighton back in October.

The Toffees other first-choice forward Richarlison has only managed one goal so far this season, but he has been unlucky hitting the woodwork several times and his role in the attack has changed to a more creative one with the shift to a 4-3-3 formation.

Still it’s important that both the South American forwards find a way to contribute more goals particularly as the Blues go into a tough run of matches in December and January.

This is made more imperative given that there is precious little back-up for Calvert-Lewin. Cenk Tosun is simply not good enough for the Premier League and they only other alternative in the squad is young striker Ellis Simms.

The decision to send Moise Kean out on loan has potentially left Everton short of other options in attack. Kean has been enjoying his time in France with PSG and scoring regularly.

On top of this the existing senior squad players like Bernard and Alex Iwobi haven’t contributed much in terms of goals either.

There have been plenty of links to new forward signings in the upcoming window but it’s not certain the Toffees will be bringing anyone new into Goodison Park in January.

At any rate the Blues need more goals from their existing players to give Calvert-Lewin the support he needs as they face a potentially crucial run of matches.
