Under any circumstance, Everton should avoid signing Jesse Lingard from Manchester United.

Ahead of the January transfer market, Everton have started to get linked to a number of players. Midfielders such as Isco and Luis Alberto have found their names pop up on the news feed of the Toffee fans as it is evident from the team’s gameplay that they are struggling due to the lack of creativity in midfield.

Apart from James Rodriguez, the Royal Blues do not have a playmaker that can take some load off the Colombian’s shoulders. The 29 year old’s defensive work rate has also been questioned and criticized in recent games.

This could see Ancelotti move James into a more central playmaking role, probably behind the striker, opening up the right wing position. The Toffees need to bring a right winger either in January or next summer.

According to the Mirror, Manchester United outcast Jesse Lingard is exploring loan options and Everton have been reported as a potential destination. The 27 year old is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and is yet to feature for the Red Devils in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has deserted the winger, suggesting that Lingard may not have a contract extension offered. Apart from the Toffees, West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion have also been mentioned as interested clubs.

Everton must avoid Jesse Lingard at all costs

Lingard isn’t a characteristic right winger with his exact role difficult to decipher at times. A hybrid version of a winger and midfielder, Lingard has never been able to impress in either roles in recent times. Since the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the 27 year old is on a slump and has never been able to put in performances that can leave fans and managers impressed of his qualities.

A few years ago, Lingard was seen as one of the brightest products of the United academy who would be one of the best English players of his generation. However, poor form has crippled his confidence, never allowing him to stage a comeback.

He doesn’t feature in Solskjaer’s plans and no talk regarding a contract extension hints at separation. The Englishman is exploring a loan deal in January but it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils entertain such a wish, considering he’ll enter the final six months of his contract in January.

Instead, the club may push for a cheap sale in order to avoid him letting leave as a free agent in the summer. A number of clubs have been linked to the Englishman, which gives hope to the Red Devils that there’ll be permanent takers for their academy product.

David Moyes is still keen on bringing Lingard to West Ham United. Everton must avoid Lingard. He is unlikely to solve any problem that persists with Everton and if even worse, he may end up adding to the list of troubles.
