Everton are going to scout Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey.
Throwback to the summer transfer window where Everton were getting linked to right wingers almost every day as Carlo Ancelotti was planning to strengthen the side. From Wilfried Zaha to Leon bailey, recurring links dominated the Everton news feed.
In the end, the Toffees ended up signing no one for the right wing role and deployed playmaker James Rodriguez in that position. Let’s be honest, as impactful as Rodriguez is, he’s no winger. The Toffees need a pacey, outright winger on the right flank capable of wreaking havoc through his movement and speed.
I firmly believe that James can do an even more spectacular job in a slightly retreated position, behind the striker. The free role allows him to control the tempo from the middle of the park and is less obligated to defensive duties. Bringing a winger in the next two windows should be a priority.
Bayer Leverkusen winger Bailey was on Everton’s shortlist in the summer. The interest had somewhat died down after 5th of October but it now seems that the Toffees are still keen on the Jamaican. According to the Daily Mail, Everton along with a host Premier League sides will scout Bailey in Leverkusen’s Europa League tie against Slavia Praha.

The 23 year old has impressed massively this season and has been a force to reckon with in the Bayer team who sit second in the Bundesliga table. The Jamaican has 5 goals and 6 assists in 14 games this term, making a strong case for himself. Everton, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will send scouts to BayArena as clubs across Europe ponder over a transfer.
The German side valued Bailey at £36 million in the summer and were in no hurry to sell the Jamaican in order to generate funds, thanks to the £71 million transfer of Kai Havertz. Speaking of Havertz, the departure of the German has seen Bailey take on the role of being the focal point and has clearly shown his mettle.
The Merseysiders will face a lot of competition to sign Bailey with some English Top Flight giants also waiting to pounce. Bayer Leverkusen may slap a huge price tag after Bailey’s exploits this season. The 23 year old does solve a lot of issues hence, Marcel Brands must not hesitate in going slightly over the line to sign him.
Is Leon Bailey a viable option for the Toffees?
