Carlo Ancelotti has refused to rule out making a January move for Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira to bring him to Everton.

This appears to be the first time the Everton manager has explicitly stated he might be keen to bring the 33-year-old to Goodison Park.

Khedira has been a player heavily linked with the Blues and we’ve covered this rumour on several occasions. There were recent stories that Ancelotti was talking to the German midfielder, presumably about a possible move.

An article in the Daily Mail claims that Ancelotti is pondering a new year move for the out-of-favour Juventus player.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Khedira joining would give Ancelotti another option for his midfield three as he tries to ensure the right balance and effective protection for the defence.

This has been a problem all season long and is now an even more pressing issue with Allan’s injury.

The former Real Madrid player is well known and trusted by Ancelotti and is another example of how the Everton boss likes to recruit.

He tends to focus on bringing in experienced players he knows well and trusts to perform for him. James Rodriguez (a former team-mate of Khedira) and Allan are of course perfect examples.

It might make sense to bring the German in if he joins on a free transfer if the manager thinks his input would be valuable. But I wouldn’t want the club to pay a free for him.

The Toffees have struggled to find a settled and stable midfield three, perhaps Khedira can help give him that extra option.

In other news today the Liverpool Echo report that Everton have secured a big commercial contract in his native Colombia as a direct result of the signing of Rodriguez.

This is a concrete example of how the right kind of signings to expand and further the club’s corporate and commercial interests in the South American continent.

It is a consequence of the ability of the Blues to attract top talent as a result of Ancelotti’s arrival almost exactly a year ago.
