Here are three things to take away from the Everton vs Arsenal game

Everton’s good form continued today as the Toffees managed to take a 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Goodison Park. This extends Everton’s impressive winning streak to three, with another sturdy defensive performance giving Carlo Ancelotti’s men the victory in a hard-fought affair.

Everton stuck with the defence that had gotten them their two previous wins against Chelsea and Leicester and it paid off yet again, with Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate proving they can be good full-backs in this system.

The Toffees will be hoping to carry on this form in the Carabao Cup against Manchester United, as Ancelotti has stated his desires to win Everton their first trophy in 25 years.

How Will Everton Cope Without Allan?

This is no insult to either Abdoulaye Doucoure or Tom Davies, but it’s clear Everton missed Allan in their midfield. Arsenal were able to control possession quite comfortably because Everton didn’t have the raw energy and tackling ability of the Brazilian to get them through the game.

Davies is filled with passion and plays for the badge, but he doesn’t have the anticipation or the technical ability of Allan, and passion isn’t enough in a team that wants to be challenging for European football. Everton’s defence were able to keep them in the game along with capitalising on Arsenal’s mistakes, but against a team like Manchester City with a world-class midfield or even Manchester United, they could really cause Everton problems and will make Everton’s run a lot harder until the Brazilian returns to action.
