Everton must look at bringing Idrissa Gueye back from PSG instead of signing Sami Khedira.

Everton bid farewell to the spine of their midfield, Idrissa Gueye, in 2019 as the Senegalese left for PSG. Replacing him was a daunting task as the Toffees struggled in the middle of the park in Gueye’s absence. Finally, the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti paved way to summer signings of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure who are capable of carrying out the responsibilities that were once on the shoulders of Gueye.

However, the Toffees are still keen to reinforce the heart of the midfield as a number of midfielders have seen their name getting associated to Everton. Ancelotti wants to add experience to the engine room and wants to bring Sami Khedira from Juventus. The German has a close bond with Ancelotti from his Real Madrid days and is touted as a possible signing for the Royal Blues in the January transfer window.

Khedira also wants to end his stay in Turin and is open to a Premier League switch. Khedira is a great player but with better options in the market, Everton might want to look elsewhere. One name that is reminiscent in the memories of Everton fans is of Gueye. The Senegalese was a fan favourite and a highly admired player in the Everton ranks.

According to Le10 Sport, PSG are willing to cash in on Gueye in order to generate much needed funds for the club. Les Parisiens tried to offload the midfielder in the summer transfer window but no move materialized. In fact, the player himself hinted that he’s unsure about his future in Paris after being questioned about it post the 4-0 win over Strasbourg.

"We are happy, we wanted to end the year well, we set the pace by winning 4-0. It was complicated in the first half, but we were able to set the pace and score goals. The most important thing is at the end of the season. We had a complicated start to the season. We will do everything to end well. Will I be in Paris after the transfer window? We’ll see… (via Explica)"

Idrissa Gueye a better alternative to Khedira?

Gueye presents a better opportunity than Khedira for sure. Talking in terms of experience, which Everton are looking in a midfielder, Gueye holds a similar degree of experience and in fact has spent years in the Premier League. The 31 year old is well accustomed to the nature of English football and was highly successful in the Top Flight.

Gueye is a hardworking, industrious player committing himself completely to the act, a player that Ancelotti will love to work with. If the Toffees sign Gueye, it would open new realms of possibilities in terms of formations. Khedira is elegant and can cover a number of positions across midfield but is not a workhorse like Gueye.

So, if Everton actually want to sign a midfielder, Gueye is worth considering especially when PSG want to sell to bring liquidity. I personally would take Gueye over Khedira any day simply for the better quality that the Senegalese has.
