Everton: 3 Best Things to happened to Everton in 2020
Everton’s Summer Signings
The thing about this one is, Everton have only had these players since the start of this season, but each of them have made a huge impact on the team’s performance in their own way. It’s clear Ancelotti has a huge influence with the players he was able to bring with Merseyside, with the Toffees having, in my opinion, their best transfer window ever since Farhad Moshiri started to invest in the club.
In the transfer window, Everton signed Ben Godfrey, Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Niels Nkounkou, Robin Olsen and James Rodriguez. Each of these players have been great signings, a first for Everton in a while, with Marcel Brands and Ancelotti working together, the Toffees have been able to make smart signings for cheap, and each player, especially Godfrey, Allan and James, has made a huge impact on Everton’s performances.
James Rodriguez has had a difficult last few weeks, but nobody can deny that he is the key creator on this Everton team, and when he plays Everton create so many more chances, even if the Colombian’s defensive work is very suspect.
He’s been injured ever since the Burnley game, and even though Everton have been playing fantastic, with him in the squad Everton were title contenders, the problem was Ancelotti wanted to find a system to fit all of his best players in, which the Italian has found with the 4-2-3-1.
Allan has been the pitbull Everton have needed, a perfect replacement for Idrissa Gueye, and the Brazilian was a big factor in Everton’s slow defensive improvement until he picked up a hamstring injury.
His stamina and tackling ability have really helped the Toffees, giving Everton more chances to attack because the players around Allan trust his defensive ability. His tackles per game are towards the top of the Premier League, and his dribbling ability is also very underrated, which can give Allan the rare opportunity to drive the ball forwards to create attacks.
The surprise signing has been Ben Godfrey who the Roya Blues signed from Norwich for £20m (possibly rising to £25m). The Englishman came in as a centre-back, but what instantly made him a fan favourite at Goodison Park is the versatility he has shown, before Alex Iwobi started playing right-back, it was Godfrey who stepped into that role and impressed.
He’s also massively impressed at left-back ever since Lucas Digne suffered an unfortunate injury, ever since Godfrey stepped in he’s played his best football, with his athleticism really helping, he’s also shown more willingness to get forward in Everton’s most recent games, with Everton finding their surprising replacement for Digne until he returns from injury.
