Everton: 3 options for Kean replacement and Dominic Calvert-Lewin backup
Diego Costa has been released by Atletico Madrid.

I know this is somewhat a long shot and possibly could raise a lot of questions. There’s no hiding from the fact that Diego Costa’s level has degraded in recent years. He is clearly no longer the kind of poacher we saw when he was at Chelsea. Age and lack of game time have taken a toll on him but there’s also no running away from the fact that he comes with the tag of being an animal and a nightmare for defenders.
We know how dangerous Costa can be especially when given the license to fully exploit the defence. He was released by Atletico Madrid so that he can find a new club and also because he was unhappy with the lack of game time at Wanda Metropolitano. This also gave rise to certain locker room conflicts which is why Costa is somewhat of a risk.
However, if Ancelotti and Marcel Brands can get him to agree that he won’t be crucial player, Costa could be a great signing. There were similar worries that Edinson Cavani won’t accept a squad role at Manchester United but the Uruguayan not only accepted the role of a substitute but has excelled in such a role. Costa too can be more threatening when he comes off the bench, allowing him to capitalize on tired defenders.
There are certain complications but if all things are considered, Costa would tick a lot of boxes for Ancelotti. He has Champions League experience, possesses the quality of a venomous poacher and is a great addition to strengthen the bench. At least, a short term deal can be tried as Costa remains open to a Premier League move.
