Southampton are ready to challenge Everton for Leicester City winger Demarai Gray who the Toffees have been linked with.

A story in The Sun claims that the out-of-favour English wide man, rumoured to be of interest to Everton, is a target of the Saints and a number of other clubs.

Gray has fallen down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium and Foxes boss Brendan Rogers will apparently be content to let him leave for pastures new.

The Blues have been linked with making a move for the 24-year-old attacking player and now it seems as though Premier League rivals Southampton are also interested.

As we’ve mentioned Everton need to add to their attacking options as a priority in this transfer window if they can, otherwise in the summer.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

They need to add a pacey and versatile forward who can play across the front line and contribute goals to a Toffees attack that has gone off the boil recently.

Gray has had very little impact this season hardly playing at Leicester and Rogers has preferred others to the Englishman in the Premier League.

His career could probably do with a boost and maybe Goodison Park might suit him.

He is undoubtedly a talented player who has the ability to operate on either flank, through the middle or up front.

His best position seems to be on the left. This is exactly where the Blues most need reinforcement as they have no one to supplement Richarlison when he is absent or perhaps needs a break because he’s out of form, as he is now.

The main issue is that he doesn’t score enough goals considering his ability and I suspect that he won’t be the front runner when Carlo Ancelotti is looking at attacking options.

The story in the Sun claims that although they’re keen on the player, the Saints won’t move until the summer when Gray’s contract expires.

So if the Toffees want him they will be able to get in ahead if they were to offer a small fee this month and Leicester would presumably be much more likely to be interested in that deal than letting him leave for nothing in six months time.
