With the January transfer window now open, Everton are to approach Norwich City for right-back Max Aarons as they look for Seamus Coleman’s eventual successor.

Following a disappointing 1-0 loss to West Ham on January 1, Everton may be looking into bringing in some much-needed squad depth in the January transfer window as they look to fight for a top-four spot.

One potential target on their list comes in the form of Norwich City right-back Max Aarons. It’s been reported that the Toffees are looking at potentially purchasing the 21-year-old with the idea that they would loan him back to Norwich with the Canaries fighting for promotion in the Championship.

The young right-back has been scouted by some of the top clubs in the world since the summer window, with the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona reportedly being interested.

"“Max is outstanding in many topics. I can’t praise him enough for what he has done since his first appearance,” said Norwich City manager Daniel Farke. He goes on to say:“The good thing with him is he can handle this praise. He is also a player who never gets annoyed when I have to criticize or ask him to do something else. For me, it is not just what he has done on the pitch. It is his development as a person. He is so balanced and level-headed.”"

If brought into the side, Aarons would instantly become the successor for Seamus Coleman, whose contract is expiring in 2022, and provide manager Carlo Ancelotti with some depth and versatility at the right-back spot heading into next season.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

The Norwich defender is solid in the attack as he does well to press forward on the flanks to provide crosses in the box and overlapping runs to open space for players like Todd Cantwell, Teemu Pukki, and Emiliano Buendia.

He recently displayed this against Barnsley on Saturday when he was to provide a fine pass to Cantwell in the box, who unfortunately volleyed the ball over the bar.

On defense, he has the ball skills, defensive awareness, and speed to cover the right-wing effectively.

His dribbling skills allow him to get out of tight spots and his speed and defensive timing allow him to recover and attack opposing forward lines without creating any holes in the defense.

However, although there is a lot of promise in his game, there is also a lot of room for growth.

"“He knows he can work a bit more on his assists and end product, like in the last game. I think he can be more of an offensive threat for us. You watch some of our games now and the opponents go man-for-man on him” said Farke."

For instance, the game against Barnsley left much to be desired in terms of his overall performance. Aarons had a few defensive errors that almost cost his team three points and also couldn’t connect on some of his passes in possession.

With a former Norwich player Ben Godfrey thriving with Everton, the hope would be to bring in Aarons at the right-back position to hopefully solidify the future young backline at Goodison Park.

Although Aarons still has a ways to go before cementing himself among the elite defenders in the world, he definitely has the tools to become an elite defender and with the right supporting cast at Everton, those goals would be very much attainable.
