Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has given his okay for the sale of Bernard to AS Roma.

The Bernard transfer story is circulating continuously and gaining momentum with each passing day. The Brazilian’s time at Everton seems to be coming to an abrupt end with AS Roma poised to seal the transfer. Giallorossi’s interests can be plotted back to the summer when they were in search of attacking options.

However, Ancelotti refused to let Bernard go, counting on him as a suitable squad option. However, things have now changed as we have entered the second phase of the season. The Toffees want to make Robin Olsen’s move permanent which Roma are willing to do with pleasure. The Italians proposed a swap deal which would see Olsen move permanently to Goodison and Bernard move in the opposite direction.

Roma rate Olsen at €6.5 million whereas Bernard has a market value of €10-€13 million. So, Everton would be willing to give a green light to this deal if they get Olsen plus some amount of cash.  Roma boss Paulo Fonseca is a big admirer of Bernard and wants to reunite with him after they had a successful stint at Shakhtar Donetsk.

In fact, Fonseca also called Bernard personally to convince him to join Roma. However, there were two obstacles in the way. The first being the financial side of the deal and the other being Ancelotti’s approval.

Bernard is one of the highest earning players at Everton, pocketing €133,000 a week. Roma were never open to matching this figure. The Giallorossi are open to offering €2.5 million a year which Bernard is now willing to accept on the condition that he has at least a three year deal. According to Calciomercato, Bernard’s agent is in Italy to convey the same that his client is willing to take a significant salary cut.

Now, the last obstacle was Ancelotti’s approval. According to Corriere Dello Sport, Everton boss has given his approval to Bernard’s departure. With this, a player plus cash deal looks very possible due to Everton’s desire to redeem Olsen.

Roma had two options for attacking reinforcements, Bernard and Stephan El Shaarawy. Due to the complexities involved, El Shaarawy looks out of reach whereas, on the other hand, Roma have had a smooth ride so far in Bernard chase. An official deal could be expected in coming days considering how seamlessly the operations have been carried out until now.
