Here are the Everton player ratings against Rotherham.

Everton managed to JUST get past Rotherham. The Championship side were the better team for the most part of the game, mounting severe pressure on Everton. The Toffees were sloppy, soulless and pathetic at times.

Everton looked disjointed at times, failing to apply any sorts of pressure on Rotherham. It took a whole extra 30 minutes of football for the Merseysiders to change their gears. In the end, Everton got the job done but that won’t mask how poor today’s performance was.

Match Review. Everton scrape past Rotherham. light

Everton started well, taking control of the game and pushing Rotherham to retreat into their half. Cenk Tosun scored his first goal for Everton since November 2019 to give Toffees the lead.

Until now, everything was going as per routine but the momentum shifted towards Rotherham and soon they started to cause trouble to Everton. The Millers equalized in the second half which skyrocketed their confidence and they began pushing for a second goal.

Late in the second half, the Toffees did manage to score and presumably put the tie to the bed but the goal was ruled out by the VAR for offside.  Eventually, Abdoulaye Doucoure managed to secure the win in the extra time and after his goal, Rotherham’s spirits were somewhat dented. They never were able to pose the same level of threat as before. Here are the Everton player ratings:

Robin Olsen – 7

Robin Olsen was handed his fourth Everton start and he was not in the faction of players that disappointed. The Swede was brilliant, pulling off some fantastic saves and keeping Everton in the game. Initially, it felt that it would be a lousy and quiet game for him but as Rotherham grew in the game, he became one of the busiest players on the pitch. Performances such as these will further solidify Everton’s trust in him and even push the club to make the signing permanent.
