Everton have made enquiries for Marcus Tavernier and kept a regular check on Djed Spence.
If you ask me which is the weakest position for Everton right now, I’d bet my money on right back. This is not criticism for Seamus Coleman by any means. The Everton captain is still flying high and racking up commendable performances but if you consider the future, the Toffees do need a stable backup.
Let’s be honest, Coleman will run out of juice and will need to be replaced. Jonjoe Kenny does little to settle the debate of Coleman’s successor. Carlo Ancelotti is aware of the fact and is keeping an eye on emerging right backs in Europe.
Norwich City’s Max Aarons and LOSC Lille’s Zeki Celik have been linked recently. Apart from the aforementioned players, Middlesbrough’s right back Djed Spence also attracts attention. According to TEAMtalk, Everton have doing regular checks on Spence. Apart from the Toffees, Wolves, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace remain interested.
The full back has had a breakthrough campaign and is attracting interest from Premier League clubs mainly for his attacking forays as a full back, fitting perfectly into the bracket of a modern day full back. Spence was relatively unknown when he was at Fulham but his fruitful season so far with Boro has brought him into the public eye.

Everton and other clubs will test Middlesbrough’s resolve in the summer with a move to the Top Flight highly anticipated. The same report also mentions the name of midfielder Marcus Tavernier. Middlesbrough had to dismiss a number of enquiries for Tavernier who is a key cog in Neil Warnock’s side.
Everton, Leicester City, Wolves and Leeds United have made enquiries but Boro are not in the mood to listen to offers as the side continues to push for Premier League promotion. The Englishman is predominantly a left sided midfielder but is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, central midfielder and even at left back.
Spence and Tavernier are two gems in Warnock’s side and their consistent and astounding performances make it a little too hard for the big fish to not notice. The Championship side may have a tough time in the summer with a horde of clubs chasing the duo. The Royal Blues surely need to strengthen the right back position and Spence is showing a lot of promise. Marcel Brands might launch a pursuit should the 20 year old continue with his dazzling displays.
Should the Toffees make an official offer for Spence in the summer?
