Parma could be ahead of Everton in chase of Bayern Munich striker Joshua Zirkzee.

Everton were anticipated to go shopping in January with reinforcements needed in some positions. That’s when Everton Director of Football, Marcel Brands, poured cold water over the idea of signing players in January.  However, despite his claims, the Toffees have found themselves linked to Bayern Munich striker Joshua Kirkzee.

Fabrizio Romano also reported that the Merseysiders are in talks to sign the 19 year old on loan from the Bundesliga heavyweights. Romano also stated that Serie A strugglers Parma are looking to add Zirkzee to their ranks as they make the desperate attempt to manoeuvre themselves to safety.

Everton are in search of a stable backup to Dominic Calvert-Lewin. An air of uncertainty surrounds Cenk Tosun’s future as the Turk continues to consider his options. Calvert-Lewin suffered an injury which forced him to miss the Wolves game. Carlo Ancelotti was able to engineer a terrific system that functioned without a striker against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side and brought home three precious points but this won’t be a case every week.

Playing with no backup to DCL would be like walking on wafer thin ice. Zirkzee is young and in the developmental phase of his career. A move to a Premier League side will give him a taste of different style and culture. However, Everton may have received a huge blow in his chase.

Also courted by Parma, Zirkzee could possibly be closer to a move to Italy than the Merseyside. According to Tuttomercatoweb, Bayern Munich continues to assess the available options for Zirkzee-namely Everton and Parma.  I Ducali could be ahead of the Toffees in the race to land the exuberant Dutchman as they can guarantee more space and opportunities to him.

Parma have a terrible goalscoring record, worst in Serie A, scoring just 13 goals in 17 games. The experience of Gervinho has failed to deliver whereas strikers Roberto Inglese and Andreas Cornelius have unsurprisingly offered too little. Zirkzee’s addition could help the Italian outfit to solve some of their final third issues.

It is true that the Royal Blues may not be able to offer him much playing time as Calvert-Lewin remains the undisputed starter in the team but occasional starts and off the bench appearances for the Dutchman is a possibility. Bayern Munich will make a decision next week.
