Dele Alli, rumoured to be a target of Everton, looks more and more certain to move to PSG this month as a deal for the Tottenham and ex-England midfielder edges closer to completion.

There have been stories claiming the Toffees are interested in the Spurs man who has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho after he took over last season.

Alli is a player who was one of the most highly rated a few seasons ago, like Jesse Lingaard at Manchester United. Both players’ stock has fallen recently. For Alli this is reflected in the fact that he can’t get a game at Tottenham.

Now with ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino taking over as manager at the French giants, Alli was quickly linked with a reunion to play under the Argentinian coach who got the best out of him at Spurs.

It seems this deal is edging closer with reports today that PSG will get their man, although it may only be a loan deal for the moment.

This story of the Blues interest in Alli, like so many transfer rumours doing the rounds recently probably had little substance to it and I doubt there was ever any realistic chance of the midfielder coming to Goodison Park.

And with Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands basically ruling out any new signings in this January window at the club’s General Meeting, any such deals seem very unlikely.

The club’s decision not to make any new signings is in line with recent January windows since Brands came in when the club haven’t moved for many new players apart from the odd addition.

However, not signing anyone in this window might come back to haunt Everton later this season. In particular the potential lack of forward alternatives could hurt the team.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin out injured and Richarlison struggling with his form, the Toffees could be short of options up front. We will see.
