Would Palace move make Zaha to Everton more likely

Crystal Palace are being linked to a move for unsettled Leicester City winger Demarai Gray who according to earlier stories Everton were also allegedly interested in.

So would such a move make it more likely that Wilfried Zaha will finally leave Palace and if so does that mean a transfer to Everton might once again be on the cards?

The Toffees have been repeatedly associated with signing the Ivory Coast forward ever since they apparently tried to do so eighteen months ago.

That deal didn’t happen as Palace wanted a ridiculous fee of £80 -100 million for Zaha, which Everton were understandably not prepared to pay. The Blues were supposedly offering around £50 million instead.

However, despite this impasse the stories haven’t gone away and the Blues continue to be linked with the Palace player.

Fast froward to now and with the impact of Covid 19 and the subsequent decline in football clubs income, the south London club might now be ready to accept a much more reasonable fee.

And now the Eagles are being linked with the Leicester winger Gray who has fallen down the pecking order at the Kingpower Stadium.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

In the complicated world of endless transfer rumours, it was previously claimed that Everton were also interested in Gray.

Anyway, Palace are it seems looking to re-shape their squad and if they were to sign Gray together with their summer addition Eberechi Eze, they may allow Zaha to leave Selhurst Park this summer and get a decent fee for him while he’s still going to command one.

The 28-year-old has been in good form this season and has netted eight goals so far for the Eagles.

Given that, Palace are still probably going to drive a hard bargain but they could be persuaded to let their star forward finally leave for pastures new.

Zaha is a player who I think would certainly strengthen the Toffees attack considerably. He offers pace, power and goals and can play anywhere up front.

The Blues need other options in attack to provide competition and cover for their forwards. Zaha would expect to start and that might create selection issues but a strong squad with good players competing for places is a very healthy thing and is essential for all successful teams.

It does seem as though he has been keen to move on for several years but various supposed deals whether to Goodison Park or most often Arsenal, haven’t happened.

He’s at his peak now and if he is going to get that move to a club competing at the top of the Premier League, this year would appear to be the ideal time. So would Carlo Ancelotti be interested?

The Toffees might even be able to revive the sort of deal it was claimed they offered Palace in 2019 with Cenk Tosun (who Palace briefly took on loan last January before he got injured) moving the other way to help facilitate a transfer.

This is all ifs, buts and maybes of course. There are other options for Everton to consider if they’re looking to improve their attack and players such as Leon Bailey will surely come into the picture this summer as younger and probably cheaper alternatives. But Zaha if he came, would I think be a quality, experienced addition to the club’s attack.
