Defence:

Seamus Coleman – 7

Coleman put in a solid defensive display, but clearly isn’t capable of being the marauding wing back he was in his prime. The right back kept Wednesday’s left winger quiet and also managed to get forward on a couple of occasions. The most pleasing aspect of Coleman’s performance was seeing him complete another 90 minutes after overcoming his recent niggling injuries.

Mason Holgate – 7

After filling in at right-back in recent weeks, Holgate returned to his more familiar centre-back role for last night’s fixture. It was another accomplished display from the young defender who continues to show Ancelotti that he can be relied upon by the manager in a variety of roles in his back four.

Yerry Mina – 8

Mina continued his recent impressive form with another commanding performance alongside Mason Holgate in the centre of defence. The Colombian also netted a goal, heading home from a James Rodriguez corner to put the Blues 3-0 up and send them comfortably into the next round of the FA Cup.

Ben Godfrey – 7

With the absence of both Lucas Digne and Niels Nkounkou, Ben Godfrey had to fill in once again at left-back for the Blues. It is a position that Godfrey has looked comfortable in and did so again against Sheffield Wednesday. The former Norwich man was able to showcase his strength and his pace on a couple of occasions to nullify the threat of Kadeem Harris and contribute to an overall solid defensive performance from the Toffees, complete with a clean sheet.
