With less than 48 hours left in the January transfer window, clubs in search of certain players have activated their frantic mode. Everton are least interested in signing new players and the focus remains on offloading certain fringe players.

In Carlo Ancelotti’s pre match press conference leading to the Newcastle United game, the Italian provided an answer to the Cenk Tosun links circulating around. The former Real Madrid boss admitted that the club will not stand in the way if the 29 year old wants to leave.

"Cenk has the desire to play in this period. He is talking to some clubs. Really I don’t know which club he is talking to. If he wants to leave, we are open to letting him go. He wants the opportunity to prepare for Europe [the delayed Euro 2020 tournament] for his national team. (via Liverpool Echo)"

Within the space of a month, the six foot striker has been linked to West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace and a number of clubs to Germany. Most recently, CSKA Moscow, Celta Vigo and Besiktas are in the race to sign him on a short loan deal. The Turkish giants, who happen to be Tosun’s previous employers, are the favourites to land him.

Cenk Tosun wanted by a number of teams across Europe

Even Tosun has reportedly agreed to return to Besiktas should the Turkish club and Everton agree on a deal. However, apart from the aforementioned teams, Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne also held talks with the Everton striker.

According to France Football, Saint-Etienne had targeted Tosun. Les Verts were also eyeing Mostafa Mohamed but the Egyptian instead chose to sign for Galatasaray. This brings the French side back to the drawing board as they now have little time to find a traditional No.9 before the transfer window slams shut.

Tosun now appears to be headed to Besiktas as he is on his way to Istanbul to complete the loan deal, as per Sky Sports. The idea that Tosun is heading for an exit was further strengthened by the fact that the Turk didn’t even make it to the bench in Toffees’ 2-0 loss to Newcastle United.

With a potential departure of Tosun and very limited time to bring in another striker to act as a Dominic Calvert-Lewin backup, Everton could be walking on a tight rope when it comes to depth in the striking department.
