Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring for Everton.

Midfield:

Andre Gomes – 7

It was another pleasing performance from Andre Gomes last night and is clear that the midfielder is growing in confidence week by week as Carlo Ancelotti looks to get the best out of him.

Besides a dangerous ball across the face of his own goal that nearly gave Bamford a chance, Gomes had a solid game. The former Barcelona man sat in deep alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure for most of the game, helping to hold Leeds at bay and get the Blues on the front foot when possession was turned over.

Gomes also played a cracking pass out to Lucas Digne on the left wing which led to Everton’s opening goal.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7

Everton’s midfield engine, Abdoulaye Doucoure, put in yet another energetic performance last night and did exactly what was asked of him.

It was a more disciplined performance from the Frenchman due to the continued absence of Allan, but Doucoure did still manage to burst forward from deep on a number of occasions when the opportunity arose.

However, his main task last night was to sit deep and break up play when Leeds came forward and he did his job well.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7

Sigurdsson has been given a new lease of life under Carlo Ancelotti this season and put in another strong display last night.

The Icelandic midfielder added another important goal to his season’s tally as he put the Blues 1-0 up early on, calmly guiding the ball home from Lucas Digne’s cross.

He also put in a number of dangerous crosses from corners, including a cross that eventually led to Everton’s second goal from Calvert-Lewin. But it was an overall good performance from Sigurdsson, who worked hard, particularly in the first half, and kept Kalvin Phillips quiet for most of the game.
