More transfer rumours circulating with this latest one claiming Everton are interested in a deal for yet another defender. This time it’s Keven Schlotterbeck a centre-back at German side Frieberg.

Everton don’t’ seem short of options at centre-back but according to this story, which originated in Germany, the Toffees are tracking the young German central defender.

Schlotterbeck is a 23-year-old who plays in defence and also can operate in midfield for the Bundesliga club. But in truth this is not a position that the Blues need any more reinforcements in.

Not only have Everton got Yerry Mina and Michael Keane both playing well but also of course Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey can play in the middle.

And then there is Jarad Branthwaite to come back from his loan spell at Blackburn when it finishes at the end of the season. In addition, Lewis Gibson is also on the club’s books and is also on loan for the season, although he could well be moving on in the summer.

Not only that but as Carlo Ancelotti has indicated, it looks as though Jean-Philippe Gbamin could at last be ready to return to first-team training in the next week or so. And the Ivory Coast international is very comfortable operating at centre-half as well as in midfield.

So with all those players available and if Gbamin does indeed regain his full fitness and past form as well, then the Toffees look like they are well and truly stocked for central defensive options. A move for Shlotterbeck therefore seems less then likely to put it mildly.

In other injury news Fabian Delph continues to be out and he is frustrated with the protracted time he has spent out injured.

Like Gbamin, Delph has barely played for Everton since his move from Manchester City in 2019 and he has also become something of a forgotten man at Goodison Park.

In truth his move hasn’t worked out and I don’t seen him haiving a future with the Blues long-term. I would expect him to leave in the summer, especially if Gbamin comes back and with both Allan and Tom Davies also now providing strength and depth in midifield.
