Everton started the squad rebuild under Carlo Ancelotti last summer as they offloaded outcasts and signed players in departments that needed strengthening. Midfield has been remodelled to an extent with the arrival of Abdoulaye Docuoure and Allan. James Rodriguez has uplifted the Everton attack and drastically improved the quality of the team.
However, one area that still needs attention. Seamus Coleman is in his twilight years and recent displays provide evidence that he is well past his prime days. The Toffees will need an able successor for Coleman to take over the duty of the right back when the right time arrives.
Coleman isn’t getting any younger and the niggling issues are taking more toll than expected. The Irishman started the season on a strong note and provided moments which were reminiscent of the vintage Coleman but then he suffered a muscle injury in December. Ever since his return, he has struggled to chain solid, impactful performances together.

Everton and Marcel Brands are well aware of the requirement of a new right back in near future. Jonjoe Kenny has done little to convince Carlo Ancelotti for being considered as the heir to Coleman’s throne. The Toffees have ventured into the transfer market to explore their options for the right back position.
Max Aarons has been associated with a move to Everton
Players such as Mehmet Zeki Celik of LOSC Lille, Diogo Dalot of Manchester United, Emerson of Barcelona Real Betis (on loan at Real Betis) have found themselves getting linked to Everton. One of the fresh transfer links to emerge is of Max Aarons. The Norwich City right back became very popular amongst Europe last season after comprehensive displays for the Canaries.
Norwich were relegated at the end of last season but managed to keep hold of Aarons despite interest from European heavyweights. In fact, he was reportedly close to moving to Barcelona but the deal collapsed and the Blaugrana went onto sign Sergino Dest from Ajax.
Everton managed to snap Ben Godfrey from Norwich and he has proven to be a steal at £25 million. The Toffees want to sign another defender from Norwich City and eye Aarons as a potential successor to Coleman.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Norwich have placed a £35 million price tag on the young right back amidst interest from Europe. Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are keen on the Englishman. The Championship side is in no rush to start negotiations for a sale and will wait until the summer transfer window of 2021 as the prime agenda remains to secure Premier League status for next season.
Aarons has been on Everton’s shortlist for a while but beating Bayern to the Englishman’s signing won’t be an easy task. The 21 year old is well aware of the clubs that want him and if he is to choose Everton, the club will have to offer a lucrative deal and make him believe in the Ancelotti project but chances of Everton beating the likes of Bayern appear to be very slim.
Even if the Royal Blues fail to land Max Aarons, their operation to find a suitable successor to Coleman must continue in the summer.
