Ben Godfrey will fill in in place of injured Yerry Mina.

Defence:

Right back: Mason Holgate

Mason Holgate initially started as right back against Manchester City but then returned to his usual centre back position after Mina’s injury who was replaced by Seamus Coleman. Holgate hasn’t been exceptional at right back with most of his performances being relatively anonymous but he is capable of doing a decent job. In order to compete with Sadio Mane, a defender like Holgate can contain him better compared to Coleman who lacks pace now a days.

Centre back: Michael Keane

Michael Keane put in a commanding performance against City and will have to produce something similar against the Reds. He’ll have to be more alert aerially in absence of Mina who at 6 feet 4 inches negotiated long balls and air balls with ease. Keane is a strong header of the ball and will have an interesting battle with Roberto Firmino and Salah.

Centre back: Ben Godfrey

Since Mina is out, Ben Godfrey must be preferred over Holgate in the centre back role. Godfrey is extremely quick and defensively sound. Liverpool attack with steaming pace at times and that’s when a player like Godfrey becomes an invaluable asset. The former Norwich City man has done a commendable job in every position he’s played in the backline. Godfrey will have to support Keane in central defence and help him absorb the Liverpool attack.

Left back: Lucas Digne

Lucas Digne’s forays as a left winger will come to an end as of now as he would return to his natural position and carry out his usual role. Salah can be a huge troublemaker for Everton and before he unleashes himself, he must be neutralized. Digne will have the arduous task of keeping the Egyptian in check and also raid forward and whip in crosses for the likes of Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.
