Jordan Pickford made six saves against Liverpool.

Jordan Pickford is Everton’s Number One

As somebody who’s always been a bit sceptical on Jordan Pickford, it feels great that I can confidently say that I believe in the former Sunderland shot-stopper to be Everton’s number one goalkeeper, even though Robin Olsen has put in some great performances.

Pickford was absolutely outstanding throughout the derby, scoring the highest average rating of 8.3 and being the Man of the Match in a lot of fans’ eyes. The Englishman made six saves, with two being inside the box and the save he made against Mo Salah stands out because in that area we usually see Pickford make a mistake.

His kicking was also fantastic, constantly finding Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin (when he was subbed on) with his range of kicking proving to be vital for the Toffees as it got them out of a lot of possibly dangerous situations.

The supporters will be hoping that Pickford continues this for the rest of the season, which is very possible because Pickford will know that Burnley shot-stopper Nick Pope is slowly becoming the favourite to be the number one for England at the Euros this Summer, so Pickford will need a strong end to the season to solidify himself as Gareth Southgate’s leading candidate for the goalkeeper position in the Euros.
