2000 Everton fans made a return to the stadiums in December.

Back in December, Everton were given permission to allow 2000 fans back in the stadium as the city of Liverpool fell in tier 2 of UK Government’s city tier system, which was created to resume life to normalcy in a step by step process. However, the new strain of Corona Virus was rapidly spreading across the UK forcing the government to adopt draconian measures to curb the transmission chain.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a nationwide lockdown on 4th January 2021. The alarming rise in cases and fast spreading virus raised serious questions over the Premier League but Top Flight Football was given permission to continue by following the protocols.

The lockdown meant that fans were once again restricted from the stadiums and had to be content watching their teams on TV screens. Now with the vaccination drive going on and a significant drop in cases, the government has rolled out the road map of easing the lockdown.

Prime Minister Johnson stated that Premier League fans will be allowed to be back at the stadiums by May 17 at the earliest. If everything goes to the plan and UK doesn’t see a surge in cases, fans will be able to catch their teams play on the last matchday of the league. According to Global Sports Correspondent Rob Harris, up to 10,000 fans or ¼ of the seating capacity for smaller stadiums will be allowed back in the stadiums.

The last round of matches is scheduled for May 23. Sadly, this isn’t very encouraging news for Everton fans. The Royal Blues play their ultimate League tie against Manchester City away at the Etihad Stadium which means that fans will probably have to wait until next season to return to Goodison Park.
