Last summer, Everton sent Theo Walcott on loan to Southampton to get rid of the £100,000 wages that the Toffees were paying him. The Englishman was not a firm part of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and with his contract expiring this summer, it was in the best interest of all parties that Walcott left Goodison Park and made an emotional return to his former club.
Walcott’s departure left Everton with James Rodriguez and Alex Iwobi capable of playing in the right wing role. The Colombian is better suited in a floating No.10 role rather than the right wing. Iwobi has impressed in recent times but the Toffees do lack a traditional right winger. With the sale of Bernard also possible in the summer transfer window, Everton will want to bolster their flanks.
According to Spanish outlet Deportes Cuatro, Everton are monitoring the situation of Lucas Vazquez at Real Madrid. The 29 year old has been one of the most hardworking and malleable players at Santiago Bernabeu. His deal expires at the end of this season and his future now increasingly looks away from Madrid.
Despite being a key cog under Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid haven’t entertained the Spaniard’s wage demands for a new contract. Vazquez currently earns a net of €3 million a season and the 29 year old is reportedly demanding a wage rise as he believes that his performances on the pitch have spoken a lot about his determination and dedication and he’s earned a raise. However, Los Blancos are ready to offer the same salary with a three year extension which doesn’t work for Vazquez.

Everton face competition from Milan, Napoli and Leeds for Lucas Vazquez
The three time Champions League winner will now analyze his options and make a decision over his future. As per Calciomercato, Milan and Napoli are also in the race to sign Vazquez. However, Leeds were the first team to take interest in Vazquez. The Whites could offer him a bumper €5 million a year deal to stave off competition from other sides.
Everton with the approval of Ancelotti are monitoring Vazquez’s situation. The Toffees managed to sign James Rodriguez on a free transfer last summer from Real Madrid and they can repeat a Bosman transfer this summer for Vazquez. The 29 year old can supplement the Everton attack provide substantial depth in that area.
The most appealing feature of Vazquez is how gullible he is as per the team’s expectations. He switched to the position of a right back after Dani Carvajal was injured. His versatility speaks volumes of his all round ability, capable of playing in the frontline as well as slotting into the right back role. Vazquez could be a smart addition to the squad but in order to complete the transfer, the Royal Blues will have to beat the likes of Milan, Napoli and Leeds.
