Reports today claim Bayern Munich are cooling their interest in Norwich City right-back Max Aarons so potentially making it easier for Everton to secure his signature in the summer.

Everton have been very strongly and consistently linked with the young Norwich defender and right-back is one of the positions in the team that certainly needs strengthening before next season.

Seamus Coleman is obviously nearing the end of his career after a string of injury problems and although Mason Holgate has done reasonably well filling in, the Toffees do ideally need a specialist in that position.

Aarons has caught the eye of many clubs both in England and the European continent. In fact it seemed likely he would be the first of the talented young Norwich defensive players to leave Carrow Road last summer.

But it was Ben Godfrey who made the move away joining the Blues on transfer deadlne day. He’s been a revelation playing right and left-back as well as in central defence. He has already surely cemented a permanent place in this Everton team.

Aarons is though a player who has been strongly linked recently with one European giant in particular as Bayern Munich have supposedly been tracking him closely.

A move to Germany wouldn’t be a surprise as Bundesliga clubs have been snapping up young English talent for a few years now.

However, it now seems as though they are apparently backing away from a move for him leaving the way open for other clubs including Everton.

The 21-year-old is highly regarded and a solid defender who possess pace and likes to carry the ball forward.

He would seem to be a good prospect who could solve that right-sided issue the Toffee have and to be honest if he’s half the player his former team-mate Godfrey has turned out to be, he would certainly be a good buy.

The Blues have also been tentatively linked with another very promising English full-back, Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey. The Seagulls player is a more naturally adventurous full-back than Aarons who can also play at wing-back or in midfield so might offer more in terms of that over-lapping outlet.

But then Aarons appears to be the better, more natural defender although he also gets forward plenty too. So I guess it’s what matters most to Carlo Ancelotti in terms of that position.

If Everton go for Aarons they could play a back four which could then rotate into a three with Lucas Digne bombing forward, something Ancelotti has often done before.

If Lamptey is the one then that would perhaps indicate a more directly attacking ambition placing greater emphasis on the midfield providing important cover out wide.

Of course the club might not move for either of these players! But while persistent stories centering on one player don’t mean the Blues are actually closely tracking him, it seems very likely Everton will be bringing in a right-back in this coming transfer window. Well then either of these two young Englishman looks a good bet to me.
