Tom Davies must start alongside Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Midfield:

Defensive midfield: Allan

Allan was out of action for almost two months and despite being ready didn’t start the Merseyside derby as he would’ve been rusty after a lengthy spell on sidelines which could have hurt Everton in a game of extreme importance. He must start against Southampton in order to regain sharpness. The Brazilian can trust Tom Davies to cover if he lacks a bit slightly in the beginning.

Central midfield: Tom Davies

The local Merseyside lad was terrific in the derby. He has evolved tremendously since filling in the No.6 role in Allan’s absence and has won the support of the fans. Davies gives extra energy to the midfield and extra defensive padding that may be required. The 22 year old is having a rich run of form and he should capitalize on every chance he gets.

Central midfield: Abdoulaye Doucoure

Abdoulaye Doucoure had a sloppy game against the Reds as he too often lost the ball and was not able to get his passing right but his energy and dedication could never be questioned. Doucoure’s combative nature will be important to neutralize the likes of Nathan Redmond and Stuart Armstrong. His presence in the final third will help Everton create pressure on a weak Southampton defence and maybe even forcing them into errors.
