In the current world scenario, football clubs with the biggest treasury chests have to operate stringently to lower the risk of financial ruptures. Football clubs across the world have taken strict measures to lower the expenditure. Most of the clubs have put a salary cut in place for players this season.

With the summer transfer window fast approaching, clubs are working to offer new contracts to players whose deals are running out at the end of this season. Real Madrid is one club which has two players on the renewal list or they may leave the club for free. The talks with Sergio Ramos seem to be positive and the club captain will likely extend but the renewal of Lucas Vazquez appears to hit a dead end.

The Spaniard has emerged as a possible transfer target for Everton. Apart from the Toffees, Leeds United, Napoli and AC Milan also track Vazquez’s situation. The 29 year old is trusted by Zinedine Zidane and has been an asset to have in the team under the Frenchman. He isn’t a guaranteed starter in the team but provides solid off the bench option but that has changed this season. Playing 26 matches in total this season, he has covered the right back position as Dani Carvajal has missed 25 games until now due to a string of injuries.

Vazquez is in the final year of his contract and so far has knocked down Real’s attempts for a renewal and has set his own demands which aren’t affordable for Los Blancos. According to ABC Deportes, Real Madrid cannot offer Vazquez an increment in the salary and a contract renewal looks extremely difficult.

Everton must look to take advantage if Lucas Vazquez doesn’t agree on an extension

The three time Champions League winner is demanding a 15% pay raise for a four year extension taking his salary to net €5 million a year. However, in this difficult financial situation due to the pandemic, Real cannot offer Vazquez an increment when other players such as Luka Modric, Casemiro and others have agreed to 10% pay cuts for the next season.

The renewal of Vazquez has its own challenges. If the Spaniard is an actual target for Everton, this piece of news will give some sort of a boost as they can sign him on a free transfer. Everton does need a right winger and in Vazquez, they not only get a hard working player on the right side of the front three but also a makeshift right back. His versatility will be an asset to any team he goes to.

The report further mentioned that he wants his future sorted in March. Should Lucas Vazquez fail to reach an extension agreement with Real Madrid, Everton must think of snapping him before other clubs enter the fray.
