Everton player ratings vs Southampton: Richarlison ruthless, late Pickford save secures win
Allan returned to action for the first time since December.
Midfield:
Allan – 7
Allan made a comeback to the starting lineup after 73 days, starting last against Leicester City on 17th December 2020. Allan was named on the bench against Fulham and Liverpool but was played no part in either of the games. Allan started off on a bright note as he bullied the likes of Redmond but looked a bit blunt at times which is understandable after an absence of over two months.
Not the most assuring performance from the former Napoli man but on a night where Everton had to work extremely hard to secure the home win. Allan will get better with more minutes under his belt after his return from injury.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7
Looked effervescent in the early stages of the game, involving himself in the attack. When Southampton picked up pace and momentum late in the first half, the former Watford man became a bit anonymous in the middle of the park. He kept on running back and forth on the right trying to involve himself in Everton attack as well as help the Toffees defensively.
In the second half, Doucoure ran the lengths of the pitch covering a lot of ground to cut passing lanes and surge forward when in possession. Late in the game, he had a chance where the 28 year old could have been more selfish and attempted a shot from Richarlison’s pass instead of attempting a pass to DCL. Another energetic and precise performance from the Frenchman.
Andre Gomes – 7
Andre Gomes played some smart passes, had the vision and looked confident on the ball. On days when he is confident and trusts himself, he can be the best version of himself. He had bright ideas going forward but lacked a little in execution. The Portuguese tried to be the man to manipulate possession and move the ball around but didn’t succeed entirely. Gomes worked hard and tried to involve himself defensively as well.
Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7
Collecting the ball from Calvert-Lewin, Gylfi Sigurdsson smartly timed the through ball for Richarlison who made no mistake in putting the ball in the back of the net. The Icelandic technician delivered some juicy balls from dead-ball situations and was looking comfortable in the No.10 role. However, Everton were not able to create much from open play as Everton at times struggled to get hold of the ball in the midfield and move forward.
