For years, Everton struggled to find a prolific goalscorer after Romelu Lukaku’s departure in 2017. The thirst for an instinctive, ruthless goalscorer appears to be quenched as Dominic Calvert-Lewin is emerging as one of the most dangerous strikers in England. The Englishman has 18 goals in 27 games this season can be trusted to increase his tally as we enter the last quarter of this season.

Now, that Calvert-Lewin is flourishing, finding a deputy to the 23 year old was on the agenda. Everton had in-house options in Moise Kean and Cenk Tosun. However, Kean departed to PSG on loan after his failed first attempt at settling in Merseyside and Tosun has had his ups and downs. At the start of the season, the Turk was recuperating from his ACL injury and on return had a bits and parts role.

The scepticism of fans regarding Tosun is justified because of his poor record in the royal blue shirt. Arrived from Besiktas with the hype of being a goal poacher, 11 goals in 58 games is not a glowing endorsement of his striking abilities. With the Euros approaching this summer, the 29 year old was not ready to play second fiddle to DCL and ventured for an opportunity away from Goodison. Eventually, he joined Besiktas on loan for the rest of the season.

Everton were left extremely scarce in the attacking department with just one traditional striker in Calvert-Lewin. With Ancelotti’s men chasing the European dream, having depth in the striker department was obligatory. The Toffees managed to Joshua King from AFC Bournemouth on loan on the transfer deadline day of the winter transfer window.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

The 29 year old made his Everton debut against Leeds United, coming on in the culminating stages of the game. King has just made five substitute appearances so far and eagerly awaits his first start in the royal blue.

67 minutes of football since moving to the blue team of Merseyside is too little to pass a verdict whether King has settled in well and performed as per expectations but he showed a glimpse of his abilities in the losses against Fulham and Manchester City.

Everton keen to sign Joshua King permanently

According to Daily Mail, Everton are keen to sign the Norwegian striker on a permanent basis. He arrived on a short loan from the Cherries with the chance to extend his stay at Everton for a deal worth £5 million. Bournemouth have already received an initial loan fee of £2 million. If reports are to be believed, King’s move to Goodison hints at the summer plan for Tosun and Kean.

Kean is testing new limits at PSG. The club hierarchy is fond of him and wants to keep him beyond this summer. The finances of the operation look complex at the moment but as summer arrives, PSG will make an attempt to sign the Italian permanently or possibly offer another loan with a purchase option.

As for Tosun, he currently finds himself on the treatment table at Besiktas. If King’s move is made permanent, Everton may be looking at the opportunity to sell Kean and Tosun to generate capital. Kean surely has admirers and Tosun is loved in Turkey.

King has been given far too little time to impress on the pitch but the general consensus by Ancelotti has been positive about the attacker since his move to Merseyside. The Norway international may soon have his chance of starting for Everton as the club travel to West Brom on Thursday, which could be Joshua King’s best chance until now to make a startling impact for the Toffees.
