Everton now have equalled their best away record in the league, registering nine away wins this season with their win against West Brom.

Everton had to work extremely hard to secure this away win against West Bromwich Albion. Firstly, the Toffees had a very poor start to the game as Sam Allardyce’s men dominated the game. Things took a turn in the second half as Everton were bit more composed which helped them when on the ball. Everton finally scored via Richarlison and were successful in guarding the thin one goal lead.

Carlo Ancelotti made two changes bringing Alex Iwobi and Bernard back to the lineup in place of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Allan. The Italian’s intentions were pretty clear, to inject energy and pace in the attack via Iwobi and Bernard. The Nigerian likes to draw defenders and take them on whereas the diminutive Brazilian has dribbling skills to get past defenders in tight spaces.

Post 90 minutes, it was safe to say that neither Iwobi nor Bernard were able to have a positive impact. James Rodriguez, Seamus Coleman, Robin Olsen and Tom Davies were left out of the squad, indicating that they weren’t fit despite being given rest on Monday against Southampton.

The win takes Everton fourth momentarily (at the time of writing as Liverpool and Chelsea play at Anfield). This win surely puts Everton on the road to fight for Champions League places as an interesting scramble among Everton, Chelsea, West Ham United and Liverpool looks set. For today, the Toffees manage to get the job done, though a bit in an ugly fashion.

Jordan Pickford – 7

Jordan Pickford was called into action early on, pulling an elastic save from Mbaye Diagne header. Pickford was again called into action and in total made three saves in the game. There was constant threat from West Brom but there weren’t many efforts from the hosts that truly tested the Englishman’s abilities. Another superb and error free performance from the 26 year old.
