The last 15 days have been nothing less than wonderland for Everton and its fans. The events that erupted this buzz are – A Merseyside derby win at Anfield, Lucas Digne who is arguably the best left back in the league right now extended Everton contract till 2025, Everton are very much in the race for Champions League football.

The Toffees are highly ambitious under Carlo Ancelotti and want to get into Europe. A top six finish would be highly appreciated but a Champions League place finish will send the fans into a frenzy. Regardless of the European competition, they get into next season, the Royal Blues will need to strengthen certain areas and improve the depth.

The position of right back needs serious consideration. Age waits for no man and Seamus Coleman is not an exception. The Irishman has shouldered the responsibilities of a first choice right back and the leader in the team for over a decade. This season’s inconsistency and niggling issues have raised questions. Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey has slotted in the RB role but having a right back by trade is any day preferable to a makeshift right back.

Marcel Brands and Ancelotti are aware of the need for a Coleman successor and have already explored a number of options in the market. Last summer, Everton were linked to Atletico Madrid’s Santiago Arias but failed to sign him as Bayer Leverkusen snapped the Colombian on loan.

Everton’s search for a right back has seen them getting linked back to the Medellin born defender. According to Le10 Sport, Everton, PSG and AS Roma are set to compete for Arias. Leverkusen signed him on loan with an obligation to buy but on the condition that he plays 10 games for the German club. However, the 29 year old suffered a horrific Fibula fracture on international duty and has been recuperating ever since. Should the obligation to buy clause be disregarded due to lack of appearances, Arias could be on his way back to Atletico.

PSG have the desire to sign Alessandro Florenzi permanently and bring another right back to compete with the Italian. The French giants are already monitoring Hector Bellerin and Elseid Hysaj. Now, Arias is also being considered.

Everton must stay away from Santiago Arias especially when there’s a possibility of Max Aarons

Achieving Champions League Football will help Everton attract some of the biggest young footballers to Merseyside. The arrival of Norwich City right back Max Aarons could become a serious possibility. The 21 year old was linked recently as Fabrizio Romano reported that Everton are serious candidates to sign him and Bayern Munich were not convinced to pay £35 million for Aarons.

The Canaries are prepared to sell Aarons irrespective of their success or failure to achieve Premier League promotion for a price of £35 million. Aarons at 21 will offer more years, energy and quality than Arias who is aged 29.
