Chelsea vs Everton: Timo Werner and 2 Chelsea players that can cause problems to Everton
Chelsea forward Timo Werner is on the path to regain his best form
Timo Werner
Forwards at Chelsea have had a fair share of struggles settling at the club. Alvaro Morata and Fernando Torres will attest the above notion. Timo Werner was also heading for the same path. While the former RB Leipzig attacker hasn’t faced adversities like Morata, the adaption was slow and steady.
Werner is finally starting to look himself again. The German speedster who tore up defences in the Bundesliga, is now playing well and regaining his touch, which he lost while settling in the Premier League.
While goals have come at a disappointing rate (five goals, five assists in 26 PL games), positionally he has started to look confident and comfortable. In the wide position, He’s no longer glued to the left wing, often feeling isolated from the rest of the team. When Olivier Giroud is the focal point of the Chelsea attack, Werner drifts inward and is close to the Frenchman. The 25 year old thrived at Leipzig in a similar role which allowed him to post outrageous numbers last season (28 goals in 34 Bundesliga games).
He has started to get involved in the play lot more, playing those key passes to his teammates in and around the final third. The German has developed new skills or certainly enhanced those skills which were paid little attention before. He can run at the Everton defence and cause all sorts of problems from the left side.
Everton backline has been astute, absorbing everything that has come it’s way in recent games. The back four look solid but Werner surely has the tools in his armoury to breach the defence. The likes of Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey will need to be faultless or they will have Werner looking at their shoulder, ready to pounce on them.
