Allan was not his usual self and was lacking sharpness

Midfield:

Allan – 5

Usually reliable and the guardian of the back four, Allan was not very secure which opened up a lot of spaces and left the defence vulnerable. The Brazilian’s poor challenge in the buildup to second goal was of no effect as McNeil got past him with ease before conjuring up a beautiful strike past Pickford.

Remained decent in the second half but more is expected from a player of his quality. Allan threaded a beautiful pass to DCL, possibly the best pass of the game, releasing Calvert-Lewin in the final third but he couldn’t put pressure on the Burnley defence.

Andre Gomes – 5

Andre Gomes had the responsibility to create chances for Richarlison and DCL in absence of Sigurdsson. After Iwobi was slotted on the right, Gomes’ had to contribute more but it simply wasn’t happening for the Portuguese. The former Barcelona man gave Everton a bright start in the second half, shooting from distance and forcing Pope to make a save. The entire midfield was dull and Gomes had to take certain blame for it.

Tom Davies – 6

Tom Davies, playing on the right side of the diamond, was guilty for losing the ball in midfield giving birth to the first Burnley attack which ultimately resulted in the first goal of the game as Chris Wood gave Burnley the lead. The 22 year old might argue that he was fouled but losing the ball in such a position is criminal.

Davies redeemed himself to a certain extent, assisting the Calvert-Lewin goal and later doing hard work in the midfield.
