A new day and new transfer rumours with Everton today associated with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud who is being linked to a number of Premier League clubs.

Dahoud is a player who has caught the eye and according to the Daily Mail there is plenty of interest in him and Everton are one of the clubs that are monitoring the player.

The Toffees do certainly need some midfield reinforcements and the Blues have been linked with a succession of midfielders with Dahoud now the latest of them.

Everton have a lack of clear and balanced options in centre-midfield after the first-choice pair of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Throughout this season Carlo Ancelotti has tried a number of different partnerships with Andre Gomes, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies have all played with the two summer signings.

None of these combinaitons have quite worked and now after Allan’s recent absence and with Doucoure injured until the end of the season, the lack of depth and options here has been exposed.

While Davies has played well in Allan’s number six type position, he struggled to fill in for Doucoure in the match with Burnley and the Toffees midfield lacked enough pace and energy against the Clarets. There has been at times a lack of balance and enough energy and urgency from these players.

Well Dahoud is another possible option. The German midfielder is primarily a defensive midfielder who has been enjoying a fine season at the moment in the Bundesliga. He is a very accurate passer of the ball and so offers creativity too.

Dahoud is being tracked by a lot of clubs according to this story and although he has some of the qualities the Blues need and supposedly he’s actually on Everton’s radar as the club search for reinforcements in midfield.

I think there are better options to be honest and I’m not sure he would be the ideal addition to bolster the Blues midfield as opposed to a player like say Adrien Rabiot or Ibrahim Sangare, but you never know.

In some other transfer stories, Sergio Aguerro the Argentine star striker at Saturday’s opponents Manchester City, is quoted as being very keen to stay in English football when he current contract at the Etihad Stadium runs out.

He’s not heard anything from City about a new deal yet apparently. Just a widly unrealistic hope I know but although he’s had his injury problems he’d be a great addition on a free transfer to the Everton attack this summer!
