Everton need to decide on attack

In their FA Cup exit to Manchester City Everton showed great defensive resiliance and very nearly did enough to nick a win but once again the Toffees attack was basically impotent. So how can the Toffees solve this problem without losing their defensive solidity?

Everton have been caught in a quandry for most of the season trying to find the right balance between defence and attack.

At the start of the campaign the Blues were playing in an offensively orientated 4-3-3 with an attack in which James Rodriguez joined Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison up front.

For the first month or so of the campaign this worked well and Everton were scoring plenty of goals with Calvert-Lewin on fire early on and looking like he’d score every time he got a chance. But they were also conceding quite a few too.

Injuries though disrupted this side and as results declined Carlo Ancelotti tried various line ups and formations without much success. But while the team weren’t scoring much anymore they were still conceding all too freely.
