In today’s transfer speculation there are claims Everton are considering a swap deal to secure a young Besiktas forward who has been labelled a ‘predatory animal’.

That player is the Canadian international Cyle Larin and the swap deal involves a player leaving Everton that the club have been desperate to get off their books: Cenk Tosun.

The Turkish centre-forward has failed to prove he can cut it in the Premier League and he is currently on loan for the rest of the season back at Besiktas the club the Toffees signed him from in January 2018.

Now according to these reports the Blues are looking at setting up a deal ready for the summer transfer window to exchange Tosun permanently for the Canadian forward who is enjoying an excellent season.

Larin is a very versatile forward who operates wide on either flank and through the middle up front. On that basis alone he’s worth considering.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form this campaign and is his club’s leading scorer with fourteen goals netted so far.

Just this week he has been replicating that form for his country with a hat-trick in a World Cup qualifier against Bermuda.

However, although the Caribbean side are a bit more useful than San Marino (against whom Dominic Calvert-Lewin got his first brace for England), that’s hardly top grade opposition. Still goals are goals and you can only score against who you play.

In addition, according to Whoscored.com’s analysis, Larin seems particularly well-suited to playing wide on the right where he has been most productive scoring four goals and grabbing an assist.

The right hand side of Everton’s attack is the most pressing in terms of the need for reinforcement and the team badly needs more pace and direct goal-scoring threat there.

Furthermore, Larin is also very strong in the air and could therefore fill in well for Calvert-Lewin offering a similar threat in that respect to the Englishman.

Of course the Canadian is scoring all his goals in a weak league and obviously the situation with Tosun has underlined the difficulty of stepping up from the Turkish league to the Premier League.

While all that is true he could be the sort of young talent a little under the radar of other clubs and might turn out to be a bargain if he can deliver in the Premier League.

Larin offers pace, goals, versatility and creativity and seems a similar sort of player to Josh King, although younger and much more productive.

And were Everton able to sort out a swap deal for him in exchange for Tosun staying, it would again save money and leave Carlo Ancelotti free to concentrate resources elsewhere this summer.
