The transfer rumours come thick and fast as always and today Everton are being linked with a summer move for Japanese defender who it’s claimed is ideal for the Premier League.

Everton certainly need to strengthen the right side of their team as we’ve just mentioned. Sorting this aspect of the team is critical to creating better balance and improiving the attacking quality of this Toffees side.

It’s obvious Seamus Coleman’s time is coming to an end even though he’s still a good player when he’s fit and in form, as he showed again on Monday night. But at 31 with a history of serious injuries it’s clear his days starting week-in-week-out are numbered.

This article claims the Blues are now looking Bologna’s right-sided defender Takehiro Tomiyasu as that possible replacement for Coleman.

Tomiyasu is a player who has also been on the radar of fellow Premier League club Newcastle United with Steve Bruce apparently a big fan of the Japanese international.

Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are another club that are interested in the player who is now attracting clubs across Europe.

The 22-year-old is a very strong defender who can play anywhere across the backline both full-back and centre-back. On the downside he doesn’t offer a lot in the attacking areas although he’s contributed two goals this season.

I think ideally the Blues need to find a player who can contribute both defensive solidity and attacking flair, goals and creativity, someone like Berardi.

Tomiyasu is one of a number of right-sided defenders linked with a move to Everton after Norwich City’s Max Aarons, Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey or Real Madrid player Lucas Vasquez.

One thing that makes the Japanese player more attrtactive perhaps is the relatively low fee he would command compared to the others mentioned.

Bologna paid £6 million for him and according to transfermarkt.co.uk he would cost about £16 million or thereabouts.

That would make him a much more affordable buy than Aarons or Lamptey who being English full-backs tend to have an inflated price tag.

But as I say I think the Toffees need to find a player who can offer a more all-round contribution to enble the club to focus resources on other priorities.
