Everton could go into the transfer market with the agenda to find a striker should Moise Kean leave, which is very probable, and the future of Joshua King also remains uncertain. The Toffees had reportedly come forward for Marseille striker Valere Germain who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Germain is not the only striker linked with the Toffees. Germain, Adam Armstrong, Daryl Dike are the names that the Toffees could reportedly target and have scouted. While the likes of Dike and Armstrong are promising players and sound exciting but that is not the case for Germain.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

The Frenchman is days away from turning 31 and has done very little to impress Marseille manager Jorge Sampaoli. The Argentine manager has frozen Germain out and is unlikely to make him a part of his plans. Previously, L’Equipe (via Sportwitness) reported that there are a number of clubs eyeing Germain.

AC Milan and Everton had come forward but no contacts have been made. Meanwhile, Rennes and Bordeaux are eager to sign the former AS Monaco striker. From Italy, Genoa and Sampdoria are tracking him. However, according to the latest report from French outlet Le10 Sport, Everton and Milan have decided against pursuing Valere Germain.

Everton make the right decision regarding Valere Germain

If the reports are to be believed, the Royal Blues have made the correct decision to not target the soon to be a free agent. The Frenchman is on a downhill and simply isn’t competent enough for Everton. The Toffees need to have a very competitive and skilful squad if they are to regularly compete for Europe.

While additions such as James Rodriguez, Allan and other summer signings have elevated the levels of the team, there still remains room for improvement and strengthening. Signing a 30-year-old Germain won’t be a particularly smart piece of business. He seems to be past his prime and his goal returns aren’t convincing.

Three goals in 32 appearances isn’t the kind of return you expect from a striker. Everton may need a backup to Dominic Calvert-Lewin but Germain’s credentials don’t make a strong case to consider.

Instead, investing in youth and signing a young striker should be on the agenda. Kean signing was supposed to be the right step, a young striker with tremendous potential and part of a long term project but sadly it didn’t pan put the way fans and team management would’ve expected.

Targeting the right players is crucial in this transfer window especially if the club makes it to Europe.
