Everton finally won a Premier League game after a series of draws and in the process ended a quarter of a century without a win at Arsenal last night.

So let’s have a look a the player and see who stood out and who struggled for Everton in what was overall a pretty uneventful match.

Jordan Pickford

The England keeper had returned to action last weekend against Tottenham and had a solid amtch not being at fault for any of the two goals Spurs striker Harry Kanes netted.

Yesterday he had much less to do in a dull game that lacked much goal-mouth action. However, with the Toffees holding a slim one-goal lead courtesy of that Bernd Leno howler, the Gunners had their best chance with seconds left and Pickford produced an excellent save, which preserved that lead and the points.

So for that I’m giving him man of the match as it was the single most important thing any one Blues player did all game!

8/10 MOTM

Seamus Coleman

The Irishman was busy and energetic and provided good width on the right while also being involved in some of the better Blues attacking play as he was against Spurs.

7/10

Ben Godfrey

The ex-Norwich City defender generally had a quiet game playing at centre-back alongside Mason Holgate. He wasn’t required to do much but looked solid enough and again showcased his pace and power in what is his preferred position.

6/10

Mason Holgate

Like his partner, Holgate was pretty solid although he had a few wobbly moments particularly  a wild slice in and I still think he is better suited to playing in a three but it remains to be seen if he will have a significant role in the Toffees defence long-term.

6/10

Lucas Digne

Everton’s Frenchman had another consistently sound match providing good width on the left and some excellent crosses and as always was reliable in defence.
