We are in the culminating stages of the season, inching closer to shifting our attention to summer as all sorts of rumours and transfer news fly around. Everton have seen numerous strikers get linked and the name of Joshua Zirkzee has once again found a way to feature on the Everton fans’ newsfeeds.

Back in January, Everton were very close to signing the 19 year old from Bayern Munich. There were conversations and there was concrete interest but in the end, Italian side Parma managed to beat the Toffees to his signature. The Merseysiders and Parma were in talks with Bayern but it was the Serie A side who convinced Zirkzee and reached an agreement with the Bundesliga Champions of a loan with an option to buy for around £13 million.

Failing to land the youngster, the Toffees then focused on other targets, eventually managing to sign Joshua King on a short term deal. However, the Norwegian is yet to start a game for the Royal Blues and has so far struggled to make an impact in the limited time he’s got on the pitch. Moise Kean is most likely headed out the exit door as PSG push to sign him on a permanent basis with Juventus still lurking in the background.

The need for a backup striker arises once again and the Toffees are not hesitant in going for targets who have been linked to the club before. Zirkzee could certainly be an option but there is interest from other clubs as well for the Dutch youngster.

Everton in the race for Joshua Zirkzee

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Parma are considering the activation of the buy option for Zirkzee even though they have been relegated to Serie B. Zirkzee has struggled to hit the ground running since arriving at Ennio Tardini Stadium, rattled by injuries and poor form.

However, this hasn’t deterred Parma’s intentions to sign him permanently but instead of keeping the budding youngster in their ranks, I Crociati would loan him out immediately if they sign him permanently.

Everton and PSG are in the race to sign the 19 year old but whether the Merseysiders do make a move for the striker or not depends on Kean. If PSG sign the Italian from Everton, the Parisiens will automatically pull out of the Zirkzee race. The second scenario is if Kean does return to Goodison, even though the chances are dim, PSG will then prioritize to sign the Bayern Munich loanee.

Zirkzee has honed his skills at Bayern, watching and training with goal machine Robert Lewandowski. Zirkzee has all the typical characteristics of a number nine. At 6 feet 3 inches he’s tall and has a robust physical build. While he is still developing his game and maturing, he has shown a lot of promise at Bayern.

A young striker like Zirkzee won’t obstruct Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s progress but instead offer a considerable backup when required. Even though it is early doors, Zirkzee is a player to look out for in the summer transfer window.
