Sheffield United have been relegated to the Championship after a horrendous and unyielding season in the Premier League. Several players could be headed for an exit from the Bramall Lane, especially those who have individually shined and rose above the team’s mediocrity. One such name is Sander Berge who is being chased by several clubs including Everton.

The Royal Blues managed to win against West Ham United, keeping the dying hopes of a European qualification somewhat alive. Regardless of whether the Toffees make it to Europe or not, the team needs modifications and further strengthening to reach the ultimate goal envisioned by Marcel Brands and Carlo Ancelotti.

We are in the culminating stages of the Premier League but most of the outcomes are clear. Manchester City already have one hand on the trophy for a long time and are just waiting to be crowned as Champions. Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion have already been relegated and Fulham will join the aforementioned teams in the Championship if they fail to win against Burnley on Monday.

Premier League sides may pounce on players of the relegated sides who have performed brilliantly and possess enough quality to feature in the Top Flight. Despite Sheffield’s woes, Berge has caught the eye of many with his consistent and all-around midfield performances.

Everton interested in Sander Berge

Despite being out of action for the majority of 2021, Berge has done enough to attract the attention of clubs like Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Aston Villa, as per Daily Mail. The in demand midfielder had shock suitors in Manchester City who are searching for a midfielder as Fernandinho draws curtains on his glorious career as a City player.

As for Arsenal, Mikel Arteta needs to re-energize and rejig the squad to make the Gunners competitive once again. The Spaniard wants to strengthen the midfield and Berge is certainly one of his options to target.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

As for Everton, Ancelotti heavily focused on remodelling the midfield last term, signing Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure for central midfield and James Rodriguez for attacking midfield. While the trio has performed exceptionally when fit, injury issues have troubled the Toffees for the majority part of the season, putting a strong case for extra squad depth in the midfield.

Jean-Philippe Gbamin managed to get fit and even feature after 18 months on the sidelines. But his dreadful misfortune saw him suffer another injury, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. Andre Gomes has also had a fair share of niggles and inconsistencies.

This is why Everton may enter the market with a midfielder on their shopping list. As per the report, Berge is one of the players being targeted. The Blades may find themselves helpless in keeping the 23 year old, especially after the relegation and drop in the release clause.

Everton learn Sander Berge price

According to the same Daily Mail report, Berge had a release clause of £50 million but Sheffield’s relegation means his release clause has dropped to £35 million, making more and more parties interested in the former Genk midfielder.

Berge arrived from Genk in January 2020 for £22 million but could be headed for an exit after just one and a half season. Even though the Norwegian isn’t seeking an exit, the future remains uncertain.

Everton and other sides are now aware of the price they will have to pay for Berge so now it remains to be seen how the story unfolds as we inch closer to the summer transfer window.
