Everton failed to win at Aston Villa tonight in another frustratingly underwhelming performance despite some good chances created that resulted in a 0-0 draw. So how did the players do?

Jordan Pickford

The Everton keeper didn’t have much to do in a match devoid of any real attacking quality and incidents and he wasn’t under much threat from an ordinary Villa attacking performance but he kept a clean sheet again, securing a point for the Toffees.

6/10

Mason Holgate

As I thought Carlo Ancelotti brought Holgate back for this match despite his terrible performance two weeks ago against this opponent. He was pretty solid in a defence that held firm and only allowed a couple of shots on target.

4/10

Michael Keane

Keane might have expected a tough time coming against Villa’s powerful centre-forward Ollie Watkins but he didn’t play and so instead he and the rest of the Blues defence faced Kieran Davis instead and Keane coped well enough.

5/10

Ben Godfrey

Everton’s deadline day signing had another very solid match and was probably the best player on the night. He defended well and had a good chance at the other end, but perhaps not surprisingly given he’s not a striker, he didn’t take it. Still a good effort again overall.

7/10 MOTM

Lucas Digne

It was another sound, solid and consistent all-round performance from the French international without him pulling up any trees.

5/10

Seamus Coleman

The Irishman had a decent enough game he got forward quite a bit as always and worked hard and defended solidly in general.

6/10

Abdoulaye Doucoure

It was good to see the dynamic former Watford man back for the Blues tonight although he was understandably a little rusty after his layoff.

He was industrious and committed as always and might have been a contender for MOTM if he’d taken the chance he had too but again it was missed on a night when the Toffees fluffed a number of good opportunities.

6/10

Allan

Brazilian midfielder Allan was also decent enough and did his usual error-free job in central midfield back alongside his French team-mate Doucoure.

6/10

Gylfi Sigurdsson

The Icelandic player didn’t have much impact but he created a few chances and had one or two set-piece opportunities but again didn’t have much consistent influence.

5/10

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The Blues striker huffed and puffed again and had a couple of opporuntites but couldn’t convert especially the first half header and was prevented by a last-ditch intervention from a great apparently simple chance for a tap-in that could have won it.

6/10

Richarlison

Once again the Brazilian was in and out of the match and like his striker partner had several chances and missed a great one to win it late on.
