Everton fans are well aware of the name of Merih Demiral. The Juventus defender has been reported as a transfer target for several months. The Toffees have been linked to a host of centre backs and Demiral is one of them.

Everton are well stacked in the centre back department with Michael Keane, Ben Godfrey, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate as available options. Jarrad Branthwaite spent the second half of the season on loan at Blackburn Rovers. It is needless to say that the team is comfortable at the back with Carlo Ancelotti having the liberty to deploy a back three or back four as per the situation and style adapted by the Toffees.

Yet, links to central defenders keep on emerging. The Toffees have been associated with Kalidou Koulibaly, Gleison Bremer and Demiral. Juventus still dream of Moise Kean and were reportedly ready to offer the services of Adrien Rabiot or Aaron Ramsey in exchange. However, the Royal Blues were instead interested in Demiral.

Previously, the Turk was deemed as an untouchable and non-transferrable as Juventus counted him and Matthijs de Ligt as the successors to Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci. However, that narrative seems to be changing.

Juventus open to selling Everton target Merih Demiral

According to Calciomercato, Bianconeri defender Demiral could leave Turin. The 23 year old is not satisfied with his current role and the amount of game time he is getting. The Turk has just played 1661 minutes this season. The report states that the Old Lady may consider selling him for the capital gain that will be generated from his sale.

This will surely give a huge boost to Everton in the chase of the former Sassuolo man. Previously, AC Milan were also keen on Demiral but the successful loan spell of Fikayo Tomori means that the Rossoneri have now shifted their attention to permanently signing the Chelsea man.

Juventus willing to sell Demiral will surely appeal to the Toffees. But do Everton really want another centre back?

If Ancelotti is looking for experience and expertise in central defence, Demiral is not the player the Merseysiders should look at. At 23, he is yet to learn a lot as a defender. Even though he is a very exciting prospect, he is still honing some of his skills.

The Toffees already have Ben Godfrey in a similar age bracket who has performed exceptionally well. If Everton are looking for an experienced leader at the back, Koulibaly should be the one the Toffees must fancy signing. But if the Merseysiders want a young defender who can be moulded as per requirements, Demiral is a very strong option which will surely excite the fans.

The Turk is rated at £25.2 million (via Transfermarkt). Juventus will be hoping to command a similar fee for Demiral as his contract runs till 2024 giving the Old Lady a lot of power during negotiations.
