Philippe Coutinho is famous for his right footed curling efforts

The Barcelona attacker produces his best when played on the left side. However, teams nowadays want agile and pacey attackers on the flanks and Coutinho doesn’t boast scaring pace. In fact, speed has never been his strong point. If you consider him as an eight, he lacks the physical solidity to tussle in central midfield.

Coutinho does his best when dropping behind the striker slightly on the left and occupying spaces between the striker and the left winger. His lethal right foot has launched rockets and produced spectacular moments of glory.

Everton need pace and Coutinho may not be the best candidate to offer it. But what he does offer can hardly be matched. There are better players on the market who offer skillsets that Everton are in desperate need of but if the Toffees are looking for a player who has abundant imagination and is a hybrid of a quality attacking midfielder and methodical winger, Coutinho is the go to man.

His market value has drastically fallen. The Samba star was rated at £135 million but sighting injuries, poor form and miserable time in the Catalan capital, his value has plummeted to just £36 million (Transfermarkt), making him affordable for the Arsenal and Everton.

If Everton does actually take the effort to sign Coutinho and beat the likes of Arsenal to his signing, the 28 year old could join the likes of Steve Mcmohan, Kevin Sheedy and few others who would have donned the jerseys of Everton and Liverpool during their careers.
