Lucas Ocampos was linked to Everton last season

Lucas Ocampos (Sevilla)

Lucas Ocampos was a target for Everton and Manchester United last summer but a move to either side never materialized. Ocampos had a spectacular 2019-20 season, scoring 17 goals and assisting another five in 44 appearances and also winning the UEFA Europa League with Sevilla.

The Argentine couldn’t replicate those numbers this season, managing just eight goals and four assists in 46 outings for Sevilla. Nonetheless, he remains a top winger. Ocampos has pace, flair and a superb set of skills that complement his style.

The Argentine averages 2.77 successful dribbles per game, putting him in the top 10% of attackers in Europe. Ocampos is quick and attacks spaces while going forward. Ocampos’ credentials will suit Everton well and massively improve the depth issues.

The former Marseille man averages 5.61 touches in the final third and 7.49 progressive carries. Interestingly, Ocampos on average receives 8 progressive passes per 90 which means that he often is a reliable outlet in attack and is a part of building the attack.

From the three mentioned wingers in this piece, Ocampos has the best defensive contributions as well. The Argentine doesn’t shy away from making tackles, averaging 1.58 tackles and 1.60 blocks per 90 minutes which is pretty commendable for an attacker. The 26-year-old is also strong aerially, winning 1.15 aerial duels per game.

At 26, Ocampos is yet to hit his peak and a jump to the Premier League will look enticing. Everton can have a pacey and all-around winger in their ranks, which will solve many of their problems. However, with his contract in Seville running till 2024 and his market value around £36 million (Transfermarkt), Los Palanganas will definitely demand more for Ocampos which may make it tricky for Everton.
