Well Carlo Ancelotti is to jump ship and abandon Everton after eighteen months in charge and return to Real Madrid. So much for his commitment to ‘the project’ and all that!

This decision is obviously a huge piece of news and throws everything Everton have been doing for the past year and half into chaos, again. Quite how this decision fits in with his public criticism of the European Super League, which Real Madrid were the leaders of, who knows?

So does this latest fiasco represent the end of the final chance that there was to restore our club to greatness again?

Of course all those transfer targets that the Toffees have been repeatedly linked with and the players we’ve been talking about as possibilities, are now thrown into serious doubt and it’s uncertain who the Blues can now seriously hope to sign this summer.

And will this lead to an exodus of existing stars with Rodriguez surely going and now probably almost certainly his South American team-mate Richarlison too.

Once Los Blancos had sacked Zinedane Zidane the possibility of Ancelotti returning to Madrid was always there I suppose, but its still a massive shock and a kick in the teeth for Evertonians.

Now obviously comes the debate about who should replace him. Frankly I’m not sure who would want to given the seemingly endless instability and underachievement at Goodison Park. Our football club is becoming an embarrasing byword for chaos and uncertainty.
