Carlo Ancelotti left Everton to join Real Madrid, leaving the Toffee fans in anger, disgust and a state of confusion as to what happens to the club. The Everton board is already looking for replacements and the name of former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is considered as one of the favourites to take over at the club.

It appears Everton are stuck in the vicious cycle of instability as no manager seems to make it past 18 months mark. Either he is fired or he leaves for another club. Everton simply can’t catch a break at the moment. With every new manager coming in, the club pushes the restart button only to further destabilize the squad and the long term project.

With Ancelotti, there was hope and belief that the Italian will take the club back to glory but it proved that he was just giving false hopes to the supporters. The incoming manager must be given time, resources and transparency should be maintained with him and the board. Meanwhile, the supporters can only hope that the next manager stays and does the required job.

Santo is one of the top candidates along with names like Sergio Conceicao, David Moyes, Rafael Benitez, Duncan Ferguson and many others being considered. In fact, as per Liverpool ECHO, Marcel Brands has received 40 enquiries in the last 24 hours for the vacant position in the Everton dugout.

According to Sky Sports, Nuno Santo is the leading candidate and the Toffees are set to initiate talks with him on Wednesday. Everton board are also quite positive on Santo’s profile and are ready to start talks with him. Santo is available after leaving Wolves at the end of the recently concluded season.

Santo managed Wolves for four seasons, taking the club from Championship to the Premier League. In his first season in the Top Flight, Wolves managed to finish in 7th place and qualify for Europa League qualifiers.

Everton’s majority shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, who has pumped hundreds of millions in the club over the past few years, has been very happy with Wolves’ development under Santo which is why he’s considered in pole position to land the vacant managerial job at Goodison Park.

Santo has held talks with Crystal Palace as the London club also hunt for a new boss after Roy Hodgson left the Eagles after nearly four years at the helm. The Toffees need to make a well-analyzed and well thought decision but it also needs to be made quickly as we are in the summer and the new manager will need time to rebuild the squad as per his style.
