Everton targeting £15 million Seamus Coleman successor
Regardless of who arrives at the helm at Everton, the team needs a new right back. Seamus Coleman’s successor needs to arrive at Goodison this season and it appears that despite the managerial circus, the Toffees are also keeping a check on their transfer targets. PSV Eindhoven right back Denzel Dumfries is supposedly on Everton’s radar.
Coleman has shouldered the responsibility of being Everton’s first choice right back for over a decade but it appears that he is now edging towards the end of the cycle. The Toffees will need to find an able, potent successor to the legacy that the Irishman will leave behind. In the last couple of seasons, Coleman has struggled with injuries and niggles.
The Toffees have been trying to find his successor since the last transfer window with the names like Max Aarons, Tariq Lamptey and Mehmet Zeki Celik all doing rounds. The lack of options at right back this season saw Carlo Ancelotti use Mason Holgate as a right back when Coleman was injured and recuperating.
Holgate has played previously as RB but he is not your traditional right back. That was evident from the 24 year old’s displays where he struggled positionally and failed to contribute to the attack. The Toffees need to bring in a right back this summer as Jonjoe Kenny’s future also remains in doubt.
Everton eye PSV Eindhoven defender Denzel Dumfries
According to Voetbal International, PSV defender, Dumfries is on Everton’s radar. The report further mentions that former PSV director Marcel Brands could play a crucial role. Dumfries is looking to take the next step, a new challenge and Everton could offer him that chance.
Dumfries has been at PSV since 2018 and is the captain of the current side. The 25 year old has enjoyed his stay in Eindhoven, making 124 appearances, scoring 16 goals and assisting another 20. In the recently concluded season, the Dutchman lead his side to a second placed finish behind champions Ajax while also impressing individually with his contributions. In 41 games, Dumfries registered four goals and nine assists.

Dumfries has never hidden his desire to take the big leap and has also been open to joining the Premier League. Back in January, Dumfries spoke in an interview addressing his future.
"The Premier League and the Bundesliga suit my game. I can see the headlines already, but I think I can say it and I think everyone can see that I’m ready. I played at the highest level in the Netherlands for four years and played more than a hundred matches for top club PSV. It will soon be time for the next step. Leave with a championship. That title should be the icing on the cake. (via Voetbal International)"
Sadly, PSV did not manage to win the league title in Holland but Dumfries will be determined to accept a new challenge if it arrives at the table. Everton may soon go into a rebuild with an incoming new manager and the idea of playing in the Premier League is always attractive to a player.
The Dutchman’s contract runs till 2023 and has a market value of £14.4 million (Transfermarkt). Everton will have to shell out a similar amount to secure Dumfries’ services.
Will the Toffees sign Denzel Dumfries this summer?
