Rafael Benitez has been linked with the Everton job

It is no secret that Everton want to appoint a coach who would elevate the club to the next level. After Farhad Moshiri’s takeover back in 2016, the club has seen Ronald Koeman, David Unsworth, Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva, Duncan Ferguson, and Carlo Ancelotti come and go in the dugout for the Toffees.

No proper progress has been made with the club finishing in 7th, 8th, 8th, 12th and 10th since the 2016-17 Premier League season to the 2020-21 season. The club has no clear identity on the field, majority of the transfers have been a flop and mostly were short term purchases, and the club is nowhere near achieving their goal of regularly qualifying for European competitions through the Premier League.

So, when the rumour of hiring Rafael Benitez was floated around, it got many Everton fans sceptical, and rightly so. The Spaniard was last seen in the dugout managing Chinese Super League side Dalian Professional F.C. whom he left by mutual consent on the 23rd of January 2021, citing concerns over the health and wellbeing of his family due to the COVID-19 pandemic as a reason for his departure from the Chinese Super League side.

His last stint as a manager in England was with Newcastle United. Benitez joined the Magpies on 11 March 2016, signing on an initial three-year deal but left the club upon the expiration of his contract on 30 June 2019 due to disagreements with owner Mike Ashley.

Here are the 3 reasons why Everton shouldn’t go after Rafael Benitez:
